At Sea

The sea is seen as a simple reflecting surface above which the closely observed and pictorially structured interplay of light and atmosphere takes place.
The movements and moments as the sun sets can be a fast changing sequence of unique and dramatic variations. The long twilight afterwards provides a slower tempo with surprisingly rich veils and flashes of colour just when all seemed to be over for the day.
The paintings focus on this transition from late afternoon to the last glimmers of dusk, often looking directly into the sun.
